As the WWDC 2020 Apple event starts off with the announcement of iOS 14 and crucial updates, we are well aware that the Californian tech giant will definitely bring more surprises. In the previous post, we told you about the latest updates with iOS features and functions.
At the start of WWDC 2020, we saw that the Day 1 of the conference was full of surprises as Tim Cook announced smart functionalities that are integrated into iOS 14 software. As the event continues, there were some more revelations that are going to update all the iOS devices.
Let’s get started with all the updates of WWDC 2020 Day 2:
Apple to replace Intel Chips
The biggest announcement on WWDC 2020 was made with the Intel chips. Apple declares that it will soon utilize its own custom processors for building Mac devices in the future.
The company acclaims that their chips are made with custom and more powerful processors, which are power-efficient as well. As the Cupertino major has its own set of chipsets for manufacturing iOS devices including Watch and TV, it will conclude the dependency on Intel for their Macs.
Alongside, Apple also unveils Universal 2 for developers to carry out iOS app development on both silicone-based Macs as well as Intel-based computers.
In the future, we will also see Arm-based Mac computers as the tech leader in conversing with Adobe to bring its flagship Creative Cloud series of apps.
Unveils Rossetta 2
Apple introduces a smart translation technology Rosetta 2 for macOS apps and devices. This virtualized technology helps users to run Linux and hence developers can make apps based on iPadOS platforms as well, without any modifications.
Rosetta 2 brings a common architecture for the ease of developers so that they can cover all the platforms. As a result, the entire Apple ecosystem will be optimized and upgraded with this technology.
AirPods automatic charging analysis
Another great update from Apple is AirPod’s smart charging. With this new feature (introduced with iOS 14), OS can automatically predict when to stop the charging of the pods. It will stop at 80% instead of 100%, to minimize the aging of the AirPods batteries.
According to the experts, lithium-ion batteries shouldn’t be charged 100% over an extended time. The smart charging feature will prevent this from happening and make the battery’s life remain consistent throughout the use.
Windows Live Tiles come back in iOS 14 home screen
Live tiles were first introduced by Microsoft a decade ago. It was one of the most unique features then, where interactive icons show precise and useful information at a glance without requiring to open the app in the Start menu.
Earlier this year, Apple feature allows one-click shopping in augmented reality, which improved user experience with iOS devices a lot. Foreseeing this as a great success, they will be implementing these tiles to help users get instant information in the eCommerce apps.
This was quite a twist from Apple as they add this feature to its iOS 14 home screen. Using it, live widgets for apps on the home screen shows the short description. Along with this, users can easily pin widgets to the home screen with other apps.
WatchOS 7 Announced
This is something interesting and exciting to hear that Apple Watch OS7 announced to be released later this year. It has come with some nifty new personalizations, such as alarm type features as well as scope to add personalized faces in the watch.
Along with this, Apple added the Dance mode feature to support the fitness activities of the users. This feature tracks the movement of their hands and legs while they are in motion. As a result, the watch gives data based on calories burned during the workout or dance.
This feature also adds up to the summary tab in the workout app to display data in one place. Another major update is handwashing and sleep detection, tracking the motions, and sensing other elements such as water. Such improvements will also give a level up to wearable app development projects.
New Look to MacOS Big Sur
Besides WatchOS7, Apple announced another big update – the new version of its PC software — macOS Big Sur. It comes with a new design and some major updates to app dock and Finder. The updates are done to refine the use of screen space and offer an enhanced user experience.
The Mail app in the panel now has colors in the navigational interface. Moreover, the Photos app gets an additional sidebar for easy access.
Apple also gives users the independence to customize the Menu bar. With one-click access, they can easily drag-n-drop items from the settings. The Notifications Center also got an update as well.
The new PIP Feature
With the announcement of iOS 14, there were some great updates in the software. And the major one is the new PIP (Picture in Picture) feature. It got a lot of attention as the feature allows users to do multitasking while streaming videos.
As a result, users can do several other tasks in other apps while playing media in the background. This will be a great advantage for iOS users who aim to ease their multitasking with specific tasks on their devices.
Fixed Clipboard Privacy Issues
One major issue reported earlier this year with iPhone and an iPad clipboard was that it read temporarily saved text without any user permission. This might be inappropriate for sensitive information copied to the clipboard, such as passwords and other privacy concerns.
With the announcement of iOS 14 and updates, Apple also assures some changes to overcome this privacy concern and secure sensitive information. As demonstrated on YouTube by a user, the beta version of iOS 14 notifies the users when a particular app copies and pastes text from the clipboard.
Apple Pencil New Features
With iOS 14 updates, Apple announced some new features with iPad stylus – Pencil. The feature is called Scribble, which allows users to input text anywhere on the iPad UI screen. Moreover, users can scratch out elements to delete them. These features will surely give an enticing look-and-feel to the users.
More is coming…
The event is getting more interesting day-by-day and there will be more announcements with the updates and features of iOS software. We will see a major set of improvements with iPhones, iPads, and macOS devices. Stay tuned for more updates on WWDC 2020 and related information.
